ACUPUNCTURE
Below
are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about
acupuncture treatment.
How
Does Acupuncture Work?
The goal of acupuncture is to activate the natural, self-healing
abilities of the body. There are 14 main meridians (or channels)
that run throughout our bodies. Through these main meridians and
lesser channels, Qi (our body's vital energy) is able to course
throughout our entire body, much like blood travels the whole body
via our vascular systems. More than 400 acupuncture points lay on
these me-ridians - each one having a specific function. When these
acupoints are stimulated by acupuncture needles, they prompt the
body to carry out their designated function, activating our self-healing
abili-ties.

Is acupuncture
safe?
Yes, acupuncture is completely safe when administered by a qualified acupuncturist
(such as Jessie).
Does acupuncture
hurt?
The needles used in acupuncture are hair-thin and most people feel no
unpleasant sensations from them. At worst, patients liken the insertion
to a mosquito bite. In general, people leave their acupunc-ture treatments
feeling quite relaxed.
Do I need
to stop seeing my other health care practitioners or discontinue my medications?
Absolutely not. Acupuncture is a complementary therapy and helps to boost
the effects of other health care modalities and treatments.
